VOLUME 3 - ISSUE 20: November 17, 2025

Song for Volume III - Issue 20: Young Nudy eat. Latto & Coupe - WHAT'S HAPPENIN'

šŸ‘‹šŸ½ Hello There

This issue is marking a lot of ā€˜number’ moments for me

  • This newsletter is VOL 3 ISSUE 20 and 3-20 is my birthday

  • November marks 10 years of me living in Los Angeles and two years of creating and sending out this newsletter

  • Only three more issues left for 2025 (three is my favorite number)

I’m not sure what year three of this newsletter and year eleven of living in Los Angeles will bring me although in my gut I know it will bring me even more things I dreamed about doing and accomplishing.

For my Los Angeles based people the city charter is getting updated so if you want your voice heard go here asap as the voting closes on November 18th.

I’ve discovered a couple of new things and sharing an old one since I haven’t mentioned it before (I think):

  • Not inexpensive but very chic - engraved matchboxes in brass or silver

  • Dom’s Desserts Monthly Subscription Box (LA based)

  • Chafolio Tea - can buy online or purchase at Farmers’ Markets around LA

This issue is another short one plus we have our last guest columnist of the year, Rafael Mendez-Crouch whose column touches on how his life experiences shape his relationship with food as a chef.

Also, don’t forget to tell your friends, family and co-workers about mewd. by mikala in honor of TWO YEARS! A couple of people are getting close to their free tote bag and wouldn’t want you to miss out either šŸ™‚

See you in the final month of 2025!

P.S. I didn’t really edit my parts of this newsletter so if there are any typos etc

Books I’ve read so far in 2025

Books

Lady of Darkness by  Melissa K Roehrich - This was another slow burn of a book for me. It’s in the fantasy genre where you meet an assassin who slowly learns who is she and where she potentially came from. There’s a dash of love but it’s mainly a story of deception and discovery. I will be reading the next book as soon as I finish the other six books I need to read already.

House of Eve by Sadeqa Johnson - It’s a historical fiction book that idea for the book came from family member of the author’s experience. This books explores how much someone can sacrifice in order to reach their greatest goals. I read this book in about ~72 hours as it was relatable to me in certain ways even though the story takes place in a time where I did not exist - as time may pass but certain things stay the same.

The Thirteenth Child by Erin A. Craig - Another fantasy genre book in a world where the thirteenth child can be bestowed a blessing from one of the Gods. We follow the story of Hazel who can’t help but be human in her choices; when her Godfather is needing her to be something less than Godlike but more than human after giving her a gift. I don’t know what I was expecting from this book but it was a delightful read and left me with happy tears at the end which I did not expect.

Mexico City, MX - Kill Bill Sushi

EUROPE

London, UK - Gymkhana

I’m ready for the next Rhianna album but also glad that Anti is still great listen almost 10 years later. In between listening to Anti for the 1,000th time here are some other albums and songs I’ve checked out

Albums

ā€˜Kinda Famous (Deluxe) by KenTheMan (Hip-Hop/Rap) - This album reminds me Cocky AF by Megan the Stallion. KenTheMan is cocky but not arrogant about who she is and is not ashamed about it at all. These songs will hype you up for your day or work out and are pure fun and her lyrics are quite infectious tbh

ā€˜Ego Death At A Bachleorette Party’ by Hayley Williams (Alternative) - I love Paramore (as do a lot of Black people which can be surprising to some) so of course I am very delayed but finally listened to Hayley’s album fully. She gives her voice to what is most authentic for her to be speaking on and won’t apologize for it. This album is perfect for those days where you want to listen to something slightly angsty yet chill

Songs I’m Enjoying: Fred again.., CA7RIEL, Paco Amoroso (Electronic) - Beto’s Horn, Sexyy Red (Hip-Hop/Rap) - For No Reason, JT (Hip-Hop/Rap) - Girls Gone Wild, Young Miko (Latin) - En el Ritz, Joji (Alternative) - Past Won’t Leave My Bed, Santana & CarĆn León (Pop Latino) - Velas, YEONJUN (K-Pop) - Talk to You, Bunna B (Hip-Hop/Rap) - Move to the Left, Khruangbin (Alternative) - White Gloves ii, A$AP Ferg (Hip-Hop/Rap) - P.O.L.O, BENEE (Alternative) - Princess, Portugal. The Man (Alternative) - Knik, Charlotte Day Wilson (Alternative) - Selfish, Cardi B feat. Jeezy & Latto (Hip-Hop/Rap) - ErrTime Remix

Going Out

Predator: Badlands (In Theaters) - It’s a F-U-N time. This movie is action packed yet has funny moments. This movie takes us down a different path for the Predator franchise. I wasn’t sure if the humanistic approach would work but it did and I’m interested to see if they will make a sequel based on the ending

Staying In

TV

Gilded Age (HBO Max) - I love this show as each character both major and minor add to the overall show in their own ways. I always try to watch each season slowly since there is at least a year break in between each season. Excited to see what season four will bring and what real life events will make their way into the show

The Pitt (HBO Max) - I’m overdue on sharing about this show but here we go, if you enjoyed the first season or so of Grey’s Anatomy; you’ll enjoy The Pitt. The entire season takes place within a 24 hour period in an emergency room. The show focuses mainly on the patients in the ER but you do see some personal aspects of the doctors, nurses etc as well.
