VOLUME 3 - ISSUE 15: August 25, 2025

Song for Volume III - Issue 15: Beyonce Feat. Kendrick Lamar - Freedom

👋🏽 Hello There

I know I talk about this a lot aka time going by so fast but how is it September after this week?!? It makes me think about how two years ago, and how I was mentally, physically and emotionally in a different place from now. Also, no one really talks about how when you persevere and overcome a life event how long it actually takes to become yourself again. It’s been two years since I took a leave of absence and I finally feel like me for the most part. Not the same me of before but better and in a lot of cases more improved.

Two brands I want to share with everyone:

  • Nooci - modern wellness brand rooted in the ancient practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine

  • Onalaja - clothing brand

A short issue but there a guest columnist featuring the founder of Princess Chambers, a non-profit based in New York City. Since I’m semi chronically online figured I’d share this motivational quote to end this part of the newsletter 😂…..Life is like a sandwich, no matter which way you flip it the bread comes first! To all the Americans, I hope you are able to relax and enjoy this long weekend.

Artwork by Noah Davis on display at Hammer Museum until August 31st

Hammer Museum (Los Angeles, CA) - I love the Hammer Museum although I don’t go to it as often as I would like. Until August 31st, works by the late Noah Davis are on display so if you’re in LA be sure to catch it before it closes if you can. TBH this was the reason why I made a visit to Hammer. If not, the other works currently on display are lovely and another standout is the Renata Petersen exhibition.

Artwork by Jeffrey Gibson on display until September 28th

The Broad (Los Angeles, CA) - I love The Broad but most of the time if I go here I skip the artwork upstairs and check out what exhibition they have and the current one is vibrant and thought provoking. The artistry was on another level due to the materials used and the level of details in each piece. If you’re visiting LA or live here be sure to check out the exhibition before it leaves on September 28th

Brooklyn Museum (Brooklyn, NY) - Fall Fête: Monet and Venice and Seydou Keïta - Thursday Oct. 9th

I’ve been cooking at home 90% of the time and here is one of recipe that has been perfect for summer and can bring you into fall (for those not just starting summer like we are in LA). I did my own non measurement measurements lol but this is the recipe I based it off of.

Greek-Style Orzo Salad with Capers & Herbs

Recipe: • ½ cup cooked orzo • ¼ cup cherry tomatoes • ¼ cup diced cucumber • 1 tbsp red onion • 1 tosp Kalamata olives • 1 tbsp crumbled feta • 1 tsp capers • Chopped parsley + dill • Dressing: 1 tbsp olive oil + 1 tbsp lemon juice + oregano

I think you could add grilled meat or seafood; it would pair nicely and not take away from the dish itself. I would go simple on the seasoning though

Caught Up In This Illusion by Juicy J and Endea Owens (Jazz) — JUICY J HAS A JAZZ ALBUM. When I first found out about this album, that was my first thought. And yes Juicy J from the rap group Three 6 Mafia. I really love when artists experiment and go outside of what is expected from them. It’s a well executed album IMO. There are a few songs with lyrics but most of the album is instrumental. To me it’s perfect to turn on at anytime whether in the morning, while working or decompressing from your crazy day. I’m currently listening to it while I polish up this issue

Songs I’m Enjoying: Florence + Machine (Alternative) - Everybody Scream, UMI (R&B/Soul) - RIGHT/WRONG, Jon Batiste feat. Andra Day (Jazz) - LEAN ON MY LOVE, and Laufey (Jazz) - Mr. Eclectic
