Song for Volume III - Issue 9: Beyonce - YA YA

👋🏽 Hello There

I’ve been very chill this month, and part of it is due to some things switching around schedule wise. Instead of finding more things to do, I’m trying to spend more time at home enjoying my rent and getting back to cooking more. I always cook every week via meal prepping but I want to increase my cooking at home to 80/90 percent of the time from 70/80 percent.

Of course, I’ll still want to go out and what not but I’m trying to be even more of a responsible adult so I can meet some of my goals for 2026/2027. In more exhilarating news, I saw Beyonce while she was in Los Angeles (Night 4) and it was everything I wanted and more. I truly love how much Beyonce continuously and unapologetically celebrates Black culture especially after she had some people in a tizzy after her ‘militant’ SuperBowl performance. I still slightly giggle at that SNL skit about people discovering she was Black. Cowboy Carter was no different and appreciated her paying homage to the past and present through her intermissions, performance, etc. There is Lorebreakers on TikTok/IG/Youtube who does amazing deep dives on just how intentional she is with even the smallest details for this tour.

Random thoughts:

  • Am I the only who thinks that Waymo cars have become true LA drivers? For example, I’ve witnessed a Waymo car not slowing down at yellow light and another blocking traffic across lanes to get to the other side

  • Stickers for acne exist, and now you can use stickers and apply them to receive vitamins

  • I’m on the up and up as I’ve gotten my first scam partnership email. #milestones 😂. It may be legit but 1+1 wasn’t adding up to 2 when I did my due diligence although it looked pretty legit so who knows 🤷🏽‍♀️

  • Also I find it funny that between two phone calls last week both people were like I’m surprised you’re not in another country 💀. Although, I do plan on slowing down on my travel after July unless someone else is paying ☺️

  • One thing I love is all the cool people I know having really great moments in their lives like Landon who I met through another friend. He was one of the gentlemen who sang on the Met Gala red carpet. And the second person I know gets a shout out in the music section

  • Another cool brand, I’ve discovered - Hanne Bloch

See you next month after Summer unofficially starts!

Chloe Chiasson (Southern Guild)

One of my favorite things to do on a Friday night that gets me out but in a more chill way is an art gallery visit. This past Friday, I popped by three galleries in Los Angeles.

Songs I’m Enjoying

Found A Light (Beale Street) by BADBADNOTGOOD & V.C.R. (Jazz) Seeing someone you know pop up on a playlist is so lovely. Immediately put a smile on my face when I realized it. It’s been great seeing V.C.R.’s career grow. This song is pure joy in a groovy way that makes me think of the 60s jazz scene

Trick Daddy by Isaiah Falls (R&B/Soul) — I wonder if this samples a Too Short song as it sounds like it does to me. But also this is my future husband’s theme song hahaha

On It Goes by Avalon Emerson & Storm Queen (Electronic) — When hearing this song, the first thing I think of is the gif with the kid in sunglasses dancing and catching a vibe. Also, it gives fun 90s house music vibe too

Vespers by Model/Actriz (Alternative) — I could totally see this being played in John Wick 4 during the fight scene that took place in a Berlin club

Para Ti by Cuco (Alternative) — Reminds me of the 70s and cruising in the summer on a very sunny day

Other Songs: Same Questions (Max McKown — Country), American Tail (Dylan Gossett — Country), Angel Patience ( Olympia Vitalis — Soul), Head Over Heels (STARSET STARSET — Rock), Spend It (Summer Walker — R&B/Soul), I Like It I Like It (Moses Sumney & Haley Williams — R&B/Soul ), SORRY RACH! (Stormzy — Hip-Hop/Rap ), If I Didn’t Know Better (The Civil Wars — Country ), si mañana me muero (Beéle & Thisizlondon — Urbano Latino)

I’m back to doing mini reviews again but note that even when I don’t do a review I still enjoyed reading the book and think you should check it out

Books

The Paris Novel by Ruth Reichl  — This book will potentially give inspiration if you ever feel stuck in a routine or at a dead end and don’t know which direction to go. Overall, I will admit when I first started the book I was like eh idk if I’ll enjoy this. By the time I finished, I not only had a smile but yearned for another chapter or two. Also, it makes me want to move to Paris once I learn to speak French rather than just understand when people speak😉.

Andromeda by Therese Bohman — The structure of this book is in two parts with POVs from each of the main characters. It took a little bit of time to get into the story but once I did, I enjoyed it. The ending is a beautifully silent one and if/when you read this book you’ll understand.

Going to a grocery store can be something monotonous but I love the trend that has emerged in recent years; which is smaller grocery stores opening up and giving more access to items that you may not find in a major grocery chain. I started checking out places last year but finally starting this category officially in the newsletter now.

These ‘review’ categories are pretty generic but want to give you an idea of the place to help encourage shopping to support smaller businesses whenever possible. It could be a ‘splurge’ hence the name gourmet groceries.

Price: 💵💵💵 - From what I gathered when browsing items in the store, they aren’t cheap but aren’t ridiculously expensive like Erewhon or other high end places

Ambiance + Friendly/knowledgable staff: 👤👤👤👤 - I didn’t interact in person but I called before arriving and appreciated the staff member being kind enough to double check their inventory/what variety they had on the item I was asking about

Fresh & Organic produce: 🌽🌽🌽 - There isn’t a big variety in items but enough that you could potentially get your shopping done here depending on what you are looking for

Unique selection of items: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - There were some things I haven’t seen in other stores and appreciated seeing smaller names that you don’t see too often

Prepared foods/Hot bar: 🔥 - Not a lot of options but there are pastries and bread that you can purchase
