VOLUME 3 - ISSUE 2: January 27, 2025

šŸ‘‹šŸ½ Hello There

It’s raining in Los Angeles at the moment and I will be cliche and say we needed this rain. And what’s great is its been for the most part the type of rain we need right now. Not too heavy or light. January has been such a loooong month, but at the same time I’m okay with that because usually the months fly by and somehow it’s three months later after I blink. This issue is the issue that I was planning on sending at the beginning of the month plus some additional things since it’s a couple of weeks later.

Usually I’d have more to say here but things have been chill in the best way and I haven’t really been up to much. I did go out of town for a friend’s wedding which was a wonderful time! Oh, and I’m on a shopping fast for the next few months minus some items that I’ve carved out as need to purchases so the shopping section may be missing in action for a few issues cause if I’m not thinking about shopping then I’m not browsing either.

See you next month!

IN THE ā€˜MEWD’ FOR..

MUSIC

I’ve started my 2025 playlist and I need to build it up to more than 20 songs that I can listen to over and over. So, in the meantime, I’ve been having my 2024 playlist, New Music Daily and a few albums on rotation. Here are some quick thoughts on what I’ve been listening to recently:

ā€˜Alligator Bites Never Heal’ by Doechii — I’ve been listening to her since Yucky Blucky Fruitcake which is a wild (in a good way) song. With her first album to me, it is well rounded with an aggressive, authentic and a chill vibe. It reminds me of raw unfiltered honey (weird analogy I know) it’s delicate, sweet but packs a punch. Also, I’m reminded of 90s rap on certain songs. I’m glad to see her profile grow and believe 2025 is the year Doechii will finally get the praise and recognition that is well overdue.

ā€˜Tweaker’ by Gelo - TBH I don’t know what he is saying except during the chorus because the beat catches me more since it sounds like early 2000s rap

DeBƍ TiRAR MĆ”S FOToS by Bad Bunny - Mr. Bunny came out with a new album which no es una sopresa este Ć”lbum es muy divertido y bien.  It is well rounded and very representative of the culture and place that made Benito. You can see not only the homage he did with this album to his home and ā€˜roots’ that makes him who he is but the love he has for Puerto Rico.

ā€˜King of the Mischievous South Vol. 2’ by Denzel Curry - This mixtape reminded me a lot of Three 6 Mafia and Bone Thugs n Harmony at certain points. I had this thought even before the song featuring Project Pat. I would have loved for this to be a solo project instead of Denzel + friends on every song. I think Denzel has the talent to carry any album or mixtape on his own with just a few features. Overall, it’s great vibes and gives you great energy to start your day or before a big moment or workout.

Other songs I’m enjoying: Hello, Hi (Little Simz) and Sports Car (Tate McRae)

Movies

What Has Happened Was (Jamie Foxx stand up) (Netflix) - Started off heavy due to what happened to him but you can see how his humor helped him overcome and get him where he is today

DÌDI (弟弟)(Peacock)  - This is a coming of age story but from the male perspective of a child who is trying to figure out who he is before he starts high school. I love movies like this and if you enjoyed Eight Grade, or any coming of age movie encourage you to check this out

Carry-On (Netflix) - Oh I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. It’s definitely a popcorn movie and Jason Bateman does well as the villain to the surprise of no one. This movie reminded me of how I once had to evacuate at LAX but still had an on time departure, thankfully and gratefully.

The Six Triple Eight (Netflix) - Considering the landscape we live in now, this movie highlights the stories of women whose stories never get told even though the impact they made was a passive but major one. This movie is done by Tyler Perry but it’s so much more elevated than his previous work. Highly encourage everyone to watch and learn more about the ladies of Six Triple Eight who managed to do the unthinkable and help turn the tides when it came to the morale of troops abroad fighting during World War II

TV

The Diplomat (Netflix)- Favorite quote of season 2? ā€˜Democracy is actually going out of style’. I love a good foreign relations drama. In another life I’m a foreign service worker or Ambassador. Season two built upon the world established in season one with a punchy ending and plot line. Can’t wait to see how season three turns out

Other TV Shows or Movies I’ve watched but too lazy to do a quick review so here’s a three words or less review:

Book of Clarence(Netflix) - Weird but intriguing, La Palma (Netflix) - Nail biting (fyi — series is in Spanish, Norwegian, and English), Starting 5 (Netflix) - Behind the basketball, Moana 2(In Theaters) - Cuteee and fun, Squid Games 2 - I have thoughts (fyi — series is in Korean), The Wasp (MGM+/Prime Video) - Twisted but good, Selling the City (Netflix) - Messy, liked it, Dune Prophecy (HBO Max) - 4.5 stars, Light of My Lion - Heartwarming story (fyi — series is in in Japanese),The Substance (In Theaters) - WOW. 🫠😳

Song for Volume III - Issue 2: Bruce Springsteen - Badlands
