VOLUME 2 - ISSUE 7: March 25, 2024

👋🏽 Hello There

Another birthday has now passed by and I am now officially mid-way through my teenage adult years now. If you are confused, lemme do a quick breakdown for you:

  • 20s - Baby Adult Years

  • 30s - Teenage Adult Years

  • 40s - Adult Years

  • 50s - Older Adult Baby Years

  • 60s - Older Adult Teenage Years

  • 70s - Older Adult Years

And I could go, but I assume you get the point now. We are back to our regularly scheduled program with the newsletter and there is a guest column too 🎶🎵. I have been holding onto some of these selections for awhile so this issue is jam packed.

My first trip of the year made me feel like I did in Summer 2021 when I was a Baby Baller (in training - still am haha). It was my first ever solo trip and I stayed at Nobu Hotel in Los Cabos. When I signed the final bill after they charged my card I immediately thought ‘Wow, it’s expensive being me’. Well worth it though and more on that below in the travel section.

I am a bit annoyed at myself because I forgot to click a button in the last newsletter. The last e-mail subject line was suppose to be ‘I’m a Pisces, Pleasure to Meet You’. Nevertheless, she persisted"😂

Other random thoughts in my head right now:

  • I found out earlier this week that Ziggy Marley created the Arthur theme song (or forgot tbh I think it’s this, I am/was a big fan of this show)

  • Me and Laura Harrier are on the same page about gatekeeping. Not everything just enough so people remember how to search on their own too - we talked or really I talked about this in the 1st ever issue

  • Whales come up for air every 10-20 minutes on average. Why did I think it was a lot longer?!

  • Grass fed is a lie - make sure you ask if said cow was grass fed from start to finish and not just at the end

  • I love TikTok for videos like these - Capitalism & Situationships, Techno Without A Computer, and Pandemics’ Influence on Politics

I finally listened to Ariana Grande’s new album and really enjoyed it. I listened to the album 2x in a row on my first listen. See you in April!

P.S. If you didn’t know Instagram/Meta has auto-selected to censor content/topics around government, elections, social topics that affect a group of people and society at large.

And if you’re like wait I don’t mind that… you should, because it shouldn’t be something done for you but what you opt into. To change (if you choose to do so), go to Settings   What You See Section   Content Preferences   Political Content

TV

Marry My Husband (Amazon Prime) - This is a K-Drama so it will be in Korean (or can watched dubbed). This is a drama about a women who comes back to her life in 2013 after being killed by her husband in 2023. It’s a revenge rom-com. I also found myself intrigued on how the second lead characters descend into madness.

Halo (Paramount+) - Something that many people don’t know is I love sci-fi everything. I knew of the video game but never played or watched someone play. I started the show by chance and was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. Side note - this discovery only happened because I wound up getting a Paramount+ subscription since my parents cable login didn’t work for me to watch the Super Bowl haha.

Movies

Drive Away Dolls - I was giggling throughout this movie. It has quirky indie movie moments but overall a enjoyable movie. Margaret Qualley shined in this along with her costars Geraldine and Beanie. Enjoyed Colman Domingo in this too.

Dune Part 2 - This is developed from a series a books that will give you a better understanding of the ‘Dune’ world. As someone who hasn’t read any of the books, I think this is a movie that anyone can watch without that context (as long as you saw the first one). It’s beautifully shot and cinematic in ways that I haven’t experienced in awhile. After I already watched both movies thanks to deep dives on TikTok popping up, I have a better understanding of the source material now😂.

Bad

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (HBO Max) - I only watched/paid attention to like half of the movie but I can see why it did terribly in theaters. While Jason Mamoa and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II are attractive men, their looks couldn’t save this movie either.

Ugly

Madame Web - This movie is a hot mess and not in a good way. There are good terrible movies but this was just terrible bad. They ADR’d the villain so badly and much of the script was overly predictable and bad. I’m not one to say someone shouldn’t get hired again but they seriously shouldn’t hire this writer for anything. The actors did what they could but yeahh… so thankful I have AMC A-List so it wasn’t a total loss.

READING

Books

I read these three books in one weekend. So I don’t think I need to say more other than I really enjoyed each book for the genre that it belongs in and overall book reading wise too.

The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory

TRAVEL

Nobu Hotel Los Cabos

Every year, as I always do in general I feel very blessed and grateful for the types of vacations/trips I’m able to take. I’m a very lucky girl.

Now enough about me, let’s talk about Nobu Hotel Los Cabos. Overall, this is an elevated luxury hotel or entry level to the world of very high end luxurious hotels depending on your room selection.

Upon checking in, my room was upgraded and with this I had a Butler/Concierge. This elevated my experience here to a new level. The woman I worked with made my spa appointment and dinner reservations. I’m sure I could of had her unpack for me or draw a bath but didn’t ask. I just wanted to not think and only relax. Tiffany enabled me to do that which I appreciated very much.

Now here’s the TDLR

  • Very remote hotel but you are able to book offsite experiences/activities

  • Kid and Pet Friendly

  • Two pools, one with ambiance music and the other quiet

  • 15% service fee is not inclusive of gratuity that you may want to leave (service fee goes towards all the personnel at the resort)

  • Onsite Spa with dry and wet sauna along with relaxation area that is both indoor and outdoor (Had a great Sunday AM here)

  • Plenty of food & beverage options; I loved both the mocktails and alcoholic drinks available

For me, as a solo traveler I felt really well taken care of and truly appreciated all the staff at the hotel. Recommend for all types of trips you may want to take. For a breakdown of what I did, checkout my weekend vlog.

HOME

@mewdbymikala

organizing can be fun and slightly expensive #organizedhome #sparkjoy #bathroomorganization

If there is one area of my home that was reflective of how I was feeling last year, it was my bathroom. Before the year ended (2023), I wanted to get more organized and not have things haphazardly placed.

To start this process, I took photos of the three areas: cabinet, top drawer and under sink storage. From there I measured and put the measurements below each photo to reference when in the Container Store.

It took longer than expected because I was waiting on a product to come in stock. Funnily enough, that product wound up not fitting how I imagined it would.

Overall, I’m happy and feel like it was a worthwhile investment for me to say organized. I linked the products I bought below.

Couldn’t find the drawer organizer but it has 7 compartments
