VOLUME 2 - ISSUE 22: November 4, 2024

👋🏽 Hello There

It’s our anniversary…🎶🎵🎺🎷

November is a special month to me as it’s when I moved to Los Angeles. I started mewd. by mikala this month as well. I can’t believe it’s been almost a year of me creating and sending out this newsletter!

Photo taken in November 2015 departing from DCA on my way to LAX for the first time

I’m proud of the younger version of myself who moved to LA without a job and having never been to LA prior to my move. Here I am nine years later, living a life that is extremely blessed. I know my younger self would be amazed by how far we’ve come; along with how much I’ve been able to experience and will continue to do so.

Also, it’s the day before election day so I hope you all are exercising your constitutional right to vote!

Back to LA things, I was in Highland Park this weekend and I was reminded of my good driver in LA test. Part of it is if they have driven on the 110 N near Highland Park and Pasadena. IYKYK, that section of the 110 is not for the weak.

It’s almost holiday season so at holiday celebrations I wanna be outside like this Grandma.

Only three issues left for 2024, which will be jam packed, so keeping it very demure and mindful this issue. There will be the final mewd. picks for 2024 before the gift guide and then wrap up the year with my top pick/favorite in all categories for 2024.

See you in December!!

BEAUTY

Everyone talks about skincare for your face but when it comes to body care things are less known. Here are some products that I think you should check out if you want to take your body care to another level.

I personally always mix a body butter or lotion with an oil but when in warmer or colder climates I switch up the ratio of lotion or body butter to oil. My favorite combination has been Aveeno lotion + Osea body oil as it works for me most of the year living in Los Angeles.

SEPHORA SALE is currently happening so here are some quick picks that I personally use myself — Touchland - Hand Sanitizer, Tower 28 - Mini SOS spray, Tatcha - Kissu Lip Mask, Patrick Ta - Lipgloss and Danessa Myricks - Groundwork Palette

Staying In

Movies

Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare (Netflix) - W-I-L-D. This went on for NINE years almost a decade. I sympathize with this woman as she fell into a situation after being so vulnerable when her relationship of 18 years (off and on) ended. It’s a quick documentary that keeps you engaged and I think everyone will enjoy it.

The Bikeriders (Peacock) - At first look it made me think of the movie ‘Crybaby’ (an elevated version) and ‘Sons of Anarchy’. I think this is a slower paced movie so it may not be for everyone. I did enjoy it as it shows what one biker gang started off as before it evolved into something else.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (Starz) - A movie about killing lots of Nazis? Into that but also this movie is based on a true story. There is cool connection to James Bond as well. Guy Ritchie has a formula and it works. Lots of buff and/or attractive men plus gorgeous women who are more than their looks. There is a big spoonful of guns and violence and a side of a love story. The formula works and gave me a few giggles while watching this too. Loved this movie from to start to finish, a great popcorn action film.

Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words (Prime Video) - I enjoy MTS’ music so I decided to watch. Glad I did as I found her documentary interesting and insightful. She’s a woman who has been through so much and struggled with her mental health. It’s raw, authentic, and a great look into not only Megan Thee Stallion but Megan Pete the person behind the persona too.
