VOLUME 2 - ISSUE 21: October 21, 2024

👋🏽 Hello There

Somehow there are only 10 days left in this month. Why is time going by so so fast?! I’ve been listening to the new Glorilla album. It’s a bop and a half. There is a hype up song for most moments in your life from church (although Grandma might not approve), going out or a quiet night in with your romantic partner. This is album is explicit and Glorilla is a female rapper if you didn’t know. Speaking of rappers, have ya’ll seen the video of attendees at LSU’s stadium singing Boosie lyrics word for word? If not, Google is your friend.

I’ve recently gotten back into Tiny Desk Concerts after seeing a clip of Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso. I am so into the vibe of this duo’s Tiny Desk concert.

I feel like I’ve been posting about music enough that it should be the newest category below. I’m also not sure why I haven’t done that already but 🤷🏽‍♀️.

Because I know you are curious, here a some of my favorite things at the moment:

  • Trader Joe’s Harvest Blend Tea

  • Kefir Soda from Erewhon

  • Brown mascara - I use Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk in Dream Pop

  • Spooky Lake Month by Geodesaurus on IG and TikTok. A really cool series that is spooky and I’ve learned so much about this giant rock we live on that I didn’t know before

  • Max20499. This cat is a menace who terrorizes cats in his neighborhood. Max does have an ethics code by not attacking elderly cats and kittens

  • Unique Travel Journeys - ‘Egypt to Japan Without Flying’  (Omar Nok) and ‘Flying Across All 7 Continents Solo’ (Ethan Gao and he is simultaneously helping raise money to fight cancer)

Before I end this section, I wanted to share with you one of the referral gifts you’ll receive now that it is finalized.

If you have seen me IRL recently, I’ve been carrying it around. I’m testing it out because I have stand by what I choose for material etc., you know? I created this tote bag in collaboration with Florie who is a former coworker of mine. I really enjoyed working with her on this process! Florie is an animator and recently launched French Gift.

If you are interested you can work with her yourself on a custom item or purchase other items like birthday cards, gift wrap or kitchenware from her shop.

I was inspired by Hermes In and Out bags. For the mewd. by mikala tote, I based the items on things that I carry around in my own tote bag depending on what I’m using it for.

Images from an article on Sotheby’s website titled ‘'Introducing the Hermès In and Out Birkin and Kelly"‘

Fun fact, if you look at the cell phone it has the date and time the first issue of mewd. by mikala was released! Scroll to the bottom for your unique link to refer people if you would like to receive this tote bag. In order to receive it, you have to get 10 people who you refer, subscribe to the newsletter

Movies

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice - I don’t know what it was but something was missing. Did I enjoy it? Yes. Was the movie necessary? No. Costuming and sets were gorgeous and insanely well done.

Staying In

Movies

The Watchers (HBO/Max) - I watched this on my plane ride to Seattle. It was an engaging movie during that time. Now, what I expected this movie to be and what it actually was? Two different things when it came to certain plot concepts. I did enjoy the movie and thought the pacing was done well for the most part.

TV

I am Georgina (Netflix) - I mentioned this show in the issue that went out on Sept 24rd but I’ve finished the 3rd season and still enjoy the show. Georgina seems like a chill but aware person. Like I wanna be friends with Georgina and we can do things like grab lunch and go shopping. Although as of right now her budget is MUCH bigger than mine haha. Also there’s a lot more of CR so you can watch with your football/soccer loving significant other or friend. It’s always nice to get a peak into the personal life of a famous athlete.

The Perfect Couple (Netflix) - I thought it was the maid, was I right? Well if you haven’t watched yet you’ll have to in order to find out if I’m right. Also, skip the title card intro dance sequence as it has NOTHING to do with the plot. Wealthy people, hidden secrets and a small island. What else can go wrong besides a murder? I thought this was a fun and sensible miniseries that I liked more than I thought I would.

Industry (HBO/Max) - I FUDGING LOVE THIS SHOW. Not because it takes place in the world of finance but because every character is deeply flawed and human. You truly hate to root for them but you can’t help yourself doing that at times. I will say the season 3 finale had me pausing for a moment and like WTF at times due to a few characters actions although for certain ones it didn’t come as a surprise.

TRAVEL

HELSINKI

Sunset from a square in Helsinki, Finland

RESTAURANTS - Finlandia Caviar, GrĂśn, Gateau City Center, Way Bakery, Art Cafe Taideterassi, Ragu, Old Market Hall (Scandinavia was 😋), Muru, Natura

HOTELS - Hotel Kämp, Hotel U14, The Hotel Maria, Hotel NH Collection Helsinki Grand Hansa, Scandic Grand Central Helsinki, Hotel Mestari

THINGS TO DO -Suomenlinna, Museums (Rex Amos and Kiasma), Vintage Furniture and Clothing Shopping, Sauna (LĂśyly), Libraries (National Library of Finland, and Helsinki Central Library Oodi - has a good view of a nearby square), Changing of the Guard, Sibelius Park

BARS/NIGHTLIFE - Liberty or Death, Ateljee Bar, Le Bloom, Teatteri Bar, Brewster Bar, Rymy-Eetu

I put these two cities together because you can take a ferry via either city to the other. The ferry takes around ~2 hours and is like a mini cruise ship if you book Tallink (Iike I did!) and there is everything from food, shopping, and more on the ferry.

TALLINN

View from above in Tallinn, Estonia

RESTAURANTS - Noa, Restoran V, Røst Bakery, Restaurant Barbarea, Karjase Sai Bakery, Restaurant Odessa, Tuljak, Pierre Chocolaterie, Rado Restoran

HOTELS - Hotel Telegraaf, SchlĂśssle Hotel, Nunne Boutique Hotel, Palace Hotel Talllinn, Hektor Container Hotel

THINGS TO DO - Fotografiska Museum, Viru Bog, Kadriorg Art Museum/Kadrioru Park, St. Nicholas’ Church and Museum, Little Blue Train (on your first day otherwise may not be worthwhile), Old Hansa

BARS/NIGHTLIFE - Whisper Sister, Barbar, Koht, Cork Bar, Botaanik, Botik
